LAS VEGAS — You really can't blame smartphone makers for not building Windows 10 Mobilephones, what with the platform's puny 1.7% worldwide market share according to the most recent Gartner numbers.
But on Monday at CES, Acer, one of the few companies still keeping the faith with Microsoft's mobile strategy, announced the Liquid Jade Primo, its new flagship Windows 10 mobile smartphone with Continuum support.
We can't say it's the hottest smartphone — it looks like an Android phone circa 2011 — but its specs look fairly capable. The Liquid Jade Primo has a 5.5-inch full HD (1,920 x 1,080) resolution AMOLED screen made from Gorilla Glass, which Acer says supports "100% of the NTSC color gamut and provides 176-degree wide-viewing angles."
Acer powers Windows 10 Mobile with a 64-bit Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor and 3GB of RAM. The phone also provides 32GB of internal storage. There's LTE Cat. 6 for ultra-fast connection speeds, and 802.11ac MIMO Wi-Fi.
The Liquid Jade Primo should also take great photos. On the backside there's a 21-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture and dual-LED flash. The camera is also capable of recording video at up to 4K (3,820 x 2,160 resolution). Smack above the screen is an 8-megapixel camera with f/2.2 aperture for high-resolution selfies.
The Continuum feature — also found on Microsoft's Lumia 950 and 950XL — essentially turns the phone into a PC-like experience when it's connected to a monitor, keyboard and mouse using a dock sold separately.
The Liquid Jade Primo will be available in the U.S. starting in March. Pricing wasn't announced at CES.
